Neurological disorders pose substantial burdens on individuals, families, and health
systems.
This presentation synthesizes current evidence-based strategies for the
management of four prevalent conditions: Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s
disease (PD), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and epilepsy.
We review etiopathology-informed treatment paradigms, including disease-
modifying therapies where available, symptom-directed pharmacotherapy, non-
pharmacological approaches, and multidisciplinary care models.
For AD, we discuss cholinesterase inhibitors, NMDA receptor antagonists, and
emerging disease-modifying modalities, alongside cognitive rehabilitation and
caregiver support.
In PD, we highlight dopaminergic therapies, MAO-B and COMT inhibitors, non-
dopaminergic agents, deep brain stimulation in selected patients, and
rehabilitation.
MS management is covered through disease-modifying therapies, relapse
management, symptom control (spasticity, pain, fatigue), and rehabilitation to
optimize mobility and quality of life.
For epilepsy, we compare broad-spectrum antiseizure drugs, individualized
regimens, seizure safety, and strategies for drug-resistant epilepsy including
neuromodulation and surgical options.
Cross-cutting themes include early diagnosis, personalized medicine, patient-
centred care, telemedicine, and the integration of multidisciplinary teams. The talk
concludes with practical guidelines for clinicians to optimize outcomes across these
disorders while addressing access, adherence, and caregiver support
